Geopolitical context

Sabine Pass turned the US from an expected LNG importer into an exporter, and launched a shale-gas-to-global-market pipeline that made the US the world's largest LNG exporter by 2023. Its flexible, destination-free contracts let cargoes go wherever prices are highest — which in 2022 meant Europe, replacing Russian pipeline gas.
